Special Events Worth Planning Around
Lilac Parade (May 9): Rochester's largest annual parade with over 2,000 participants including marching bands, local organizations, and colorful floats. The parade runs from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM through the festival grounds. Arrive before 10 AM or after 1 PM to avoid parade traffic.
Art in the Park and Small Business Circle (May 9-10, May 16-17): A juried art show featuring over 300 regional makers and artisans on Reservoir Avenue, plus local entrepreneurs in the Small Business Circle. Great for finding unique local shops and boutiques from Rochester makers.
Lilac Local Farmers Market (May 11-13): Fresh produce, baked goods, and artisan food from local farms and vendors.
Fairlife Lilac Run 5K and 10K (May 17): The closing morning race through Highland Park. If you loved the Flower City Challenge earlier this spring, this is another great Rochester running event.
New for 2026: Full Circle Sustainability Initiative
The festival has partnered with Impact Earth to launch the Full Circle sustainability initiative. Zero Waste Zones will be set up throughout the festival grounds with composting and recycling stations. This is part of Rochester's growing commitment to environmental responsibility and makes the festival even more family-friendly.
Parking and Getting There
Highland Park lots fill up early, especially on weekends. Here are the best strategies:
Arrive early: Weekday mornings before 11 AM offer the easiest parking and the best lilac viewing (the flowers are most fragrant in the morning and after rain).
Weekend strategy: Plan to arrive before 10 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. After 10 AM, expect to park in satellite lots and walk or shuttle in.
Alternative transportation: RTS bus routes serve Highland Park. Biking is also popular, with bike racks available at the park entrances. If you are staying at a Rochester hotel or Airbnb nearby, some properties offer shuttle service during festival week.
What to Bring and Festival Tips
The festival runs 10:30 AM to 8:30 PM daily with free admission. No tickets are required for general admission. Bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and a blanket for the lawn concerts. Food and drink vendors are plentiful, but bringing water is always smart.
The VIP SkyDeck by Vision Financial Group offers elevated viewing, a private bar with craft beer and wine, and comfortable lounge seating. It is 21+ only except for the May 11 Cruel Summer show. Tickets sell out fast through roclilacfest.com.
